What to know before you come in to record.
* All instruments are recorded seperately one at a time.
* Bring your drumset, and guitar and bass amps and cabinets.
* There is some equipment here if you need it, guitar (& amp), bass (& amp).
There's also a guitar POD and bass POD. They imitate different guitar and
bass amp's. They sound good, but some bands prefer their amps
sound.
- We record the drums first. The drummer can hear guitars &
vocals or whatever he needs to play the song.
- Next is usually the guitars.
- if you have 1 guitarist, plan a second guitar track that
is similar to the guitar that already exists. This track will
be panned to one side, & then the other track is panned to the
other side so that it sounds fatter and in stereo.
- if you have 2 guitarists, then their tracks are going to
be panned to each side so it is in stereo.
- if you have 3 guitarists, then you'll have one in the middle
and the other 2 on each side.
- Any guitar solos or leads should be recorded on a seperate track.
On the rhythym track, where you usually play the lead, you will
play the rhythym. This is so that the leads can be centered
(instead of coming out of one speaker like the rest of the
guitar track and sounding lopsided).
- Bass is usually next but some bands do the bass before the
guitars.
- Vocals are next with backup vocals being last.
TIPS
If you have only 1 guitarist, try to plan the second guitar
track slightly different than the first guitar track so that it
spices the recording up a little.
Drums have to be recorded and re-recorded until they are right
all the way through, but guitars, bass, & vocals can be punched
in to fix mistakes.
